What is great about studying in Australia?

Australia is considered to be a provider of one of the world's best education systems. Do I need to enrol in High School Preparation (HSP)?

High School Preparation (HSP) is a course designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge needed in order to be able to study comfortably in any Australian schools. It runs for 2 school terms (approx. 20 weeks) and it is compulsory for all international students unless if the student is able to provide certified documents (e.g. ISLPR or IELTS results) as proof of English proficiency.

Where and how long can I study in Australia?

You are able to stay in Australia for various lengths of time. You can choose to stay from one school term (3 months) to as long as 5 years. It is flexible, so contact us with your preferences and we can discuss what options are out there for you.
 

What are the school terms like?

There are four school terms during the year in Australia but the exact school term dates vary from state to state, this is because individual states in Australia manages their own education system. Nevertheless, we will give you a rough idea of what it is like. For example, in Queensland state schools, you may expect term one to run from 27/01/09 to 09/04/09, term two from 20/04/09 to 26/06/09, term three from 13/07/09 to 18/09/09 and term four from 05/10/09 to 11/12/09.


When should I apply? And how do I apply?  

You are able to apply any time during the year, however we recommend that you apply as early as possible so that we can have sufficient time to process your application.
  
You are able to enquire and may be able to apply directly to the Education department of your chosen state, this can be more time consuming and can sometimes be stressful since you need to be the one doing the research, the paper work and the chasing! However, there is another alternative, you can reduce your stress and contact one of our friendly staff at AA Education and we will be able to provide you with all the necessary information and support needed, we will be able to process your papers and do all the chasing for you!
 

Do I need a visa? And where can I get it?

In order to join any international student programs in Australia, you will need to get  a student visa (sub class 571). You usually are able to obtain your student visa once you have a Confirmation of Enrolment from an Australian school which will serve as an indication of your confirmed application and fee payment. However, you will need to contact the Australian embassy in your home country to get more details regarding your visa application.  
  

Will my Australian qualifications be recognised in my home country?

Australian qualifications are usually recognised internationally. However, we would recommend that you double check this with your home institution just so that you can be certain regarding this matter.
 

How much will it cost me?

The tuition costs and living expenses in Australia are considerably low compared to countries such as USA and the UK. However, the cost usually vary according to where you are located and it depends also on your own personal living style.
 

Can arrangements be made for me to be picked up and dropped off at the airport at the beginning and at the end of my program?

You will receive the 'Arrival Details' form after the confirmation of your application. You will need to complete this form if you wish to be picked up from the airport when you arrive in Australia.

As you leave Australia, your host family or new friends that you have made in Australia are usually the ones to drop you and see you off at the airport. However, if this arrangement cannot be made, AA Education will be more than happy to help, all you need to do is contact us either by phone or email to make an inquiry.
 

What types of accommodations are available to me?

Regardless of your age, if you are enroled in an Australian High School International Student program, you are required to live with either a parent, a homestay or an approved close relative during your stay in Australia.
 

Can I study and work at the same time in Australia?

You are required to consult school staff at your host school in order to obtain permission to work, because the school needs to assess and ensure that your academic performances will not be hindered.
   
If you have obtained approval to work and if you are under 16 years of age, you can usually work for up to 12 hours per week during school time and up to 20 hours per week during the holiday periods.
 

Where do I look for help and support when I need them?

There are various people and services that you can go to when you need help. You are usually able to look for personal and school related support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the International Student Coordinator and/ or the homestay Coordinator at your host school. However, please also keep in mind that the teachers at your host school, your host family, and the staff at AA Education are also here to provide you with the support and assistance when needed.
